Basic Homemade Hummus

Equipment

  • blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 1 pound drained and rinsed chickpeas{29 oz can}
  • 2/3 cup lemon juice, fresh is best for this recipe
  • 1/2 cup tahini
  • 1/2 to 1 cup water or reserved liquid from chickpea can
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 or 4 cloves garlic
  • olive oil

Instructions

  • Place chickpeas in blender with enough water to blend. You could use the lemon juice for this step for a stiffer hummus and add water/oil later if the hummus is too thick.
  • Blend chickpeas until smooth.
  • Add remaining ingredients and blend well.
  • Taste and adjust garlic and and salt as needed.
  • Top with your favorite toppings or enjoy as is!
