BARN SALE | Authentic Farmhouse Antiques

Last weekend was our semi-annual barn sale camping trip and boy did we rack up on some dusty old junk! Just kidding, most of it was clean.

This particular barn sale happens twice a year and since it’s a few hours from our house, we all pack up and make a little vacation out of it. My mom, over at Rambling Rose Farmhouse, and my dad started going, then a few trips later, we joined in. Now, my married brother and his family even started coming so it’s my whole immediate family which is just so much fun!

It’s like a mini family reunion filled with food, campfires, the best kind of shopping, bike rides, and just being together with none of the normal life responsibilities. Well, except keeping the little people alive, of course.

What is a barn sale?

So, what exactly is a barn sale anyway? Basically, it’s like a big garage sale that’s filled with antique and vintage items. It’s typically held in and/or around a barn. Prices can range from super cheap all the way to they-must-really-like-their-stuff.

What do you buy at a barn sale?

Whatever you like! Barn sales have so many venders and such a variety of goods that you’re sure to find at least a few things that you like. That is, if you’re a lover of all things vintage and antique like we are!

You’ll see lots of cast iron, tons of baskets, blue Ball jars, vintage tins, egg beaters, and so much more!

Antiques Tunnel Vision

For me, it’s really easy to get kind of honed in on one thing and end up coming home with A LOT of that one thing. A few trips ago, it was baskets. This year it was containers for candles.

Honestly, I’m not even sure how it happened. I think I said it would be neat to make candles in antiques like Antique Candle Company. Or maybe I saw one thing and mentioned that it would make a good candle.

Either way, next thing I know, I’m the proud owner of about 60 various little cups, jars, tins, and other small things to make candles in *facepalm* It escalated quickly from a thought to 2 feet all the way in!

Here are some more of my little candle things:

My favorite find from this year is…oh man, that’s hard! I definitely love all of the brass candlesticks I was able to find.

I’d been looking for some brass candlesticks for a while but was having a hard time finding some. I had a very specific style that I was looking for. Being picky makes it more of a challenge for sure! That plus how expensive they always were kept me walking away empty handed.

I had actually just almost bought some in a shop we went into that were this same style and 3X’s as expensive. I sure was glad I didn’t get them when I found these!

I also really like this brass container that I got for candle making:

And the blue & white. And the tins. Let’s face it, it’s ALL my favorite!

If I absolutely had to choose a favorite, it would be a tie between the brass candle sticks and this awesome blue Dryco milk powder can.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed seeing our authentic farmhouse antiques as much as we enjoyed finding them!
