Is Honey Mustard Dressing Good For You?
Well, that depends on if you’re buying a typical bottle of dressing from the grocery store or putting in a tiny bit of extra effort to make something way better!
Have you ever read the ingredients label on a bottle of honey mustard dressing? Most popular brands have more sugar or high fructose corn syrup than honey! They’re loaded with unnecessary preservatives, unhealthy fats, and exorbitant amounts of sugar! So no, store bought honey mustard definitely won’t win any health food awards.
Contrast that to this super easy, three ingredient recipe that’s actually good for you! 3 ingredients. Healthy fat. Local Honey. You can have your dressing and eat it too! Of course, all things in moderation. In other words don’t go eating the whole recipe in one serving!
I think you’ll find my three-ingredient honey mustard dressing super simple and delicious. Plus, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a healthy choice for those you love. And did I mention it’s delicious?!! I seriously haven’t bought honey mustard dressing from the store in years!

The Ingredients
Honey
Honey is what gives this dressing the delicious sweetness everyone loves. You can use any honey available, but local honey is always the best choice. I’m using honey harvested from my mom and dad’s bees. You can’t get more local than that! If you’d like to know more about the benefits of local honey, you can find more information about it here.
Mustard
Mustard provides the tang to balance out the sweetness of the honey. I used yellow mustard for this recipe. However, if you like your honey mustard dressing with a little kick, you can always add a few dashes of hot sauce or use spicy brown mustard in place of the yellow mustard. This is a good, organic spicy brown mustard if you’re wanting to be a little adventurous!
Oil
Oil adds flavor and causes your dressing to stick to the food being “dressed.” When emulsified, it also gives the honey and mustard mixture a lovely smooth consistency. You can pretty much use whatever oil you have on hand, but I like to use avocado oil because of its health benefits. For more information about the benefits of avocado oil, you can read here and here. It’s some really good stuff!

- glass jar or bowl
- fork or spoon
- stick blender, optional

- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup mustard
- 1/2-1 cup avocado oil

- Combine honey, mustard, and oil in a small bowl and stir briskly until combined and emulsified.
Making Honey Mustard Dressing
First, gather your ingredients. You will need a quarter cup of honey, a quarter cup of mustard, and one half to one cup of oil. I really like the consistency I get when using half a cup of oil, but you can tweak the amount to get the consistency you like.
Next, combine the ingredients in a bowl and mix until it well blended. I usually use a spoon or fork. However, you could use a blender or stick blender if you prefer.
There you have it – a simple, delicious, and best of all, healthy Honey Mustard Dressing!
Final Notes
If you‘d like your honey mustard to be tangier or sweeter, it’s easy to adjust the recipe after the fact. Just add a little more mustard or honey until you’re satisfied with the taste.
This delicious dressing can be made in any quantity. You can make a single serving or a bulk batch to store for later use. Simply use the same quantities of honey and mustard, then add oil to equal the amount of the other ingredients. For example, if I wanted to make a quart of honey mustard dressing, I’d use a cup of honey, a cup of mustard, and 2 cups of oil. (You can add more oil, if desired) But for a single serving it would be closer to a tablespoon of both honey and mustard and 2 tablespoons of oil.
This recipe is so easy to whip up whenever you need it. Why don’t you give it a try? You may never buy Honey Mustard Dressing again!
